Project Accountant – Finance Transformation & Systems
North Wicklow | Hybrid Working | 6-Month Contract
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Accountant to join the finance function of an established multi-entity organisation based in North Wicklow.
Working closely with the CFO and wider finance team, this is a project-focused accounting role with a strong emphasis on finance systems, process improvement, controls and governance.
Rather than a traditional month-end accounting position, the successful candidate will take ownership of a number of key finance improvement initiatives across the business. It would particularly suit a qualified accountant who enjoys identifying better ways of working, improving processes and controls, and delivering meaningful change within a finance function.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Review existing finance processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency and control
- Lead and support finance process improvement and transformation initiatives across the group
- Support the implementation, enhancement and optimisation of finance systems and ERP processes
- Assist with process design, system testing, implementation and user adoption
- Review and strengthen financial controls, approval processes and governance procedures
- Develop and document finance policies, procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Support finance projects relating to VAT, indirect tax and wider compliance requirements
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate manual finance processes
- Work closely with finance and operational stakeholders to successfully implement new processes and ways of working
- Provide project updates and recommendations to senior finance leadership
About You
You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with approximately 3–6 years' post-qualified experience and a strong track record in finance improvement or project-based environments.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Experience in finance transformation, systems implementation or process improvement
- Strong knowledge of accounting processes, financial controls and governance
- Experience working with finance systems and/or ERP platforms
- Exposure to VAT, indirect tax or multi-jurisdictional finance environments would be advantageous
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills
- Advanced Excel capability
- A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to identify issues and drive solutions through to implementation
The Opportunity
This is a particularly attractive contract for someone who wants to work on tangible finance improvement projects rather than purely BAU accounting.
You will work closely with senior finance leadership and have the opportunity to influence how finance operates across a multi-entity business, with exposure to systems, controls, process optimisation and wider finance transformation.
