Our client, a well-established Irish-owned business operating within the construction sector, is seeking to appoint a Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function.

This is a broad, hands-on role suited to a strong finance professional who is comfortable working in an SME environment and wants to play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, overseeing the day-to-day finance function while helping to strengthen reporting, controls, cashflow management and overall financial structure.

Key responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of the finance function on a day-to-day basis

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and provide clear financial reporting to senior management

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management

  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations and general ledger activity

  • Ensure strong financial controls and accurate reporting across the business

  • Prepare audit files and liaise with external auditors, accountants and advisors

  • Manage VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax and wider statutory compliance requirements

  • Monitor working capital and support the business in managing cash effectively

  • Review and improve finance processes, controls and reporting structures

  • Support senior management with financial analysis and commercial insight

  • Oversee finance systems and help drive improvements in efficiency and reporting

  • Manage and support junior finance or administrative staff where required

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant with strong all-round financial control experience

  • Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance role

  • Strong experience preparing management accounts, budgets and cashflow forecasts

  • Comfortable operating in a hands-on SME environment

  • Strong systems and Excel skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work at both strategic and operational level

  • Construction, engineering or project-led experience would be a strong advantage

  • Experience with job costing, project reporting, subcontractor-heavy environments or similar would be beneficial
