Our client, a well-established Irish-owned business operating within the construction sector, is seeking to appoint a Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function.
This is a broad, hands-on role suited to a strong finance professional who is comfortable working in an SME environment and wants to play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, overseeing the day-to-day finance function while helping to strengthen reporting, controls, cashflow management and overall financial structure.
Key responsibilities

Take full ownership of the finance function on a day-to-day basis

Prepare monthly management accounts and provide clear financial reporting to senior management

Lead budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management

Manage month-end and year-end close processes

Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations and general ledger activity

Ensure strong financial controls and accurate reporting across the business

Prepare audit files and liaise with external auditors, accountants and advisors

Manage VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax and wider statutory compliance requirements

Monitor working capital and support the business in managing cash effectively

Review and improve finance processes, controls and reporting structures

Support senior management with financial analysis and commercial insight

Oversee finance systems and help drive improvements in efficiency and reporting

Manage and support junior finance or administrative staff where required
Requirements

Qualified accountant with strong all-round financial control experience

Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance role

Strong experience preparing management accounts, budgets and cashflow forecasts

Comfortable operating in a hands-on SME environment

Strong systems and Excel skills

Strong attention to detail and ability to work at both strategic and operational level

Construction, engineering or project-led experience would be a strong advantage

Experience with job costing, project reporting, subcontractor-heavy environments or similar would be beneficial
