Financial Controller

Kennedy & Partners Recruitment is working with an established and growing Irish business to appoint an experienced Financial Controller.

This is a key position within the business, taking ownership of the day-to-day finance function and working closely with the Managing Director and wider management team.

The role will suit a commercially minded, hands-on Financial Controller who is comfortable operating within an owner-managed business and enjoys being close to both the numbers and the operational side of the organisation.

The Role

The Financial Controller will have responsibility for the effective management of the finance function, including:

• Preparation and delivery of monthly management accounts and financial reporting

• Management of budgeting, forecasting and cash flow

• Oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and day-to-day finance operations

• Working capital management and maintaining strong control over cash and debtor positions

• Project and job costing, including monitoring margins and profitability

• Balance sheet management and reconciliations

• Oversight of fixed assets, capital expenditure and asset/vehicle financing

• VAT, RCT and other relevant tax and statutory compliance

• Management and development of the existing finance team

• Liaising with external accountants, auditors, banks and other professional advisers

• Reviewing existing financial processes and controls and implementing improvements where required

• Developing meaningful management information and reporting to support commercial and operational decision-making

• Working closely with the Managing Director and management team on business performance, costs and future planning

The Person

We are looking for an experienced finance professional who combines strong financial control with a practical and commercial approach.

Ideally you will have:

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification

• Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or in a comparable senior finance position

• Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow experience

• Experience managing or overseeing a finance team

• Strong systems and Excel capability

• Excellent attention to detail and financial controls

• The ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders

• A hands-on approach and willingness to remain involved in the day-to-day finance function

• Experience within an SME environment is required, ideally within construction, engineering, manufacturing or operational / project -led environments. 

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to take a central role within an established Irish business where finance is closely connected to day-to-day operations.

The successful person will have significant ownership of the finance function, direct interaction with senior management and the opportunity to strengthen reporting, controls and processes as the business continues to develop.

Salary: €80,000–€90,000 depending on experience.
